The Problem: Thinking at Your Desk

Multi-tasking gets a bad rap, but I’ve found that if you combine the right types of activities, you can actually turbo-charge your results.

Recently, I set aside time to brainstorm the content for a session I’ll be running during our Mastermind Day for Profitable Practice law firm clients.

The blank screen approach never works for me – I end up checking my phone or finding ‘urgent-but-not-important’ distractions. Anything to avoid staring at an empty page!

The Hack: Move While You Think

So instead of staying at my desk, I hopped onto my cross-trainer. I positioned my reMarkable tablet in front of me, so I could jot down ideas the moment they popped into my head.

Within seconds, my brain was firing on all cylinders. It was a bit messy writing while walking, but the thinking part felt so much easier.

In just 10 minutes, I had the entire session mapped out – structure, working title, and all. I called it: The ‘Special Sauce’ Advantage: How To Increase Your Personal Impact In Your Law Firm So You Can Accelerate Growth Without Working More Hours.

Why It Works

Once I’d nailed down the outline, moving to my desk to create the slides and workbook was a breeze. An hour later, I had my first draft done. The ‘thinking’ phase was complete, and the ‘doing’ phase was straightforward.

For me, pairing physical movement with deep thinking speeds up my results and makes the process more enjoyable. There are enough hard things in life – why not make some tasks easier?
