The Mistake I Made
Have you ever come back from a relaxing holiday only to feel more exhausted after just a few days back at work?
That was me not that long ago.
I’d had a wonderful 10-day break in Languedoc in France, feeling relaxed and happy. We arrived home late Saturday night… and by Sunday morning, I was back at my desk.
I worked all afternoon and evening, then put in long days all week.
By Thursday, I was drained. I felt low in energy and even a little resentful about the work I usually love.
It wasn’t just “post-holiday blues”. It was a sign that my planning had set me up to fail.
I realised:
- I’d scheduled a big workshop for the following Wednesday, meaning I was forced to hit the ground running.
- I went from “holiday slow time” to “work fast time” overnight.
- The sudden switch was a shock to my system.
My own planning had created the misery.
What I’ll Do Differently
Next time, I will:
- Be more careful about what I commit to in my first week back.
- Allow transition time between holiday mode and work mode.
- Silence my “inner critic” when it says I need to“make up” for being away by working really hard once I’m back.
Making change isn’t just about willpower – it’s about spotting the obstacle or challenge, then replacing it with a system that works better.
Take action
So, my question for you is: What’s one area of your business or life that isn’t working the way you want, and what could you change in the coming week to fix it?
If your post-holiday reflection is that you need more time, more profit, or more freedom in your firm, then at my workshop in London on 5th November, I will help you to build a bespoke Accelerator Plan for a high-profit, low-stress firm.
