First, a bit of context…
We moved from North London to semi-rural Kent (a big change!), and with a new home, there was a long list of things we wanted to improve or change in both the house and garden.
The garden has several different areas, so trying to make improvements in all of them at once was overwhelming.
Instead, we focused on one area at a time.
Whilst going through this process we identified plants we no longer want in one area but might be useful in another.
It’s overwhelming to figure out where each plant should go when we haven’t yet worked out the ‘plan’ for all the other areas.
To solve this, my husband came up with the great idea of a ‘Plant Park’ at the end of the garden: an area we can temporarily move plants to before we decide where they will end up.
Overwhelm avoided; we were then working our way around the garden one area at a time without worrying about the others.
I’ve realised this is the same approach I already encourage our ‘Profitable Practice’ clients to use when they create each 90-day Strategic Plan. They always have too many strategies to fit into a single 90-day plan, so I ask them to pick the top 3 – 4 and to ‘park’ the others and revisit them later.
This works because it not only avoids overwhelming but it also enables busy lawyers to focus their limited time on getting a few key strategies fully implemented and generating results.
